Waiting in Vain, shot by the relentlessly talented Aaron Feaver, follows a well-dressed vixen waiting for her lover.
“We imagined that Athena was supposed to meet her inamorato at this hotel. She waits all afternoon (and changes clothes a few times) but he never shows”, tells Feaver, who has been featured on Ben Trovato numerous times. The story was shot at an apartment building that used to be a hotel. The printed carpets, long dim-lit hallways, and winding stairwells set the 50’s/60’s inspired tone of the shoot. The mood evokes a sorrowful longing inside, but is offset by the bright and funky clothing the model was dressed in.
Shannon Roxanne, who was just featured as the face in our One Frame Fame section yesterday, opted for an all-vintage and classic look. “The shoot was vintage-inspired, mostly from the 50s and 60s. I liked the idea of a kind of housewife-affair look mixed with feminine, girlish silhouettes.” The makeup, done by Yasuko Shapiro, was superb, from Athena’s dew-kissed skin to her smoky feline eyes and painted lips.
Aaron’s use of natural light, breathtaking landscapes, and intimate indoor spaces are similar to photographers Mark Borthwick or David Bellemere. From the displays of shadows and reflections, glowing backlit sun flares, to the bare beauty he finds in his subjects, Feaver’s photography continues to impress.
