Sunday Drifter by Bryan Kong

Our second featured story today is a perfect source for weekend inspiration. Sunday Drifter takes place on an airy summer afternoon in downtown Los Angeles, where photographer Bryan Kong and model Bekka Gunther “created scenes that would represent a normal Sunday Funday in a girls life.”

Shot at the infamous Spanish dive La Cita, the location itself is colorful and full of life. The wardrobe was provided by L.A. based clothing brand Haus of Dalit. “They embody a free spirit, fresh, fun and carefree girl so we worked with them to come up with a great story that would be fitting for their brand.” The shots are taken throughout the interior and exterior of the bar, creating a diverse yet relaxed feel. “I love to mix my ideas up and be a little inconsistent with lighting, at the same time keeping it under the same roof”, explains Kong. The shoot ended with a rooftop pool downtown.

The team working on Sunday Drifter have a history, as Bryan has worked with makeup artist Joyce Castaneda and stylist Jacqueline Lavaun previously. “I swear that this is not luck, but fate has brought our amazing team together.” Jacqueline, whos work has been featured on Ben Trovato before, describes the clothing as “wearable, looks great with movement, and is above all fun, so the real challenge is to make it look accessible as possible to the everyday person.” She created this by using a minimal amount of vintage accessories, which also goes along with Kong’s taste, who is inspired by the 1960s. Model Bekka Gunther’s exotic look seemed to tie in the location and overall feel of the shoot. “Bekka Gunther is a joy to work with. Never in my life I’ve met such a hardworking model that works day after day and still able to bring her effervescence and charm to the photoshoot.

Bryan explains that fashion photography changes the way he sees people and things, and has given him a true reason to be proud of his work.
