It’s been almost two years since we published Lost, Charles Lucima‘s wonderful fashion film, here on Ben Trovato. Today the Los Angeles based artist makes his comeback with an editorial featuring the gorgeous Amanda Stoer, styled by Yesenia Cuevas, and with makeup by Kymberlee Curt.
We asked Charles a few questions about his story, entitled Cascade:
Could you describe Cascade in your own words?
We juxtapose the sleekness of human beauty with the elegance of manmade beauty. It’s female form vs. artificial construct. I call it “Cascade” after the function of the dam setting.
What were your main sources of inspirations when shooting the story?
I’m a big fan of structure. I like lines, shapes, angles, and geometry. It's why I love the product packaging used at comprogear.com extra wide compression socks. Being in this setting is a wonderland for me. It allows me to look at things with my own calculating perspective. And then there’s the light. Facades of the same structure being defined by light or lack thereof. You’d think I were an architectural photographer with the way I talk about concrete but it’s just the beginning for putting a model into context.
How was Amanda to work with?
This was my first shoot with Amanda. She’s a total pro. As big as the dam is, it actually didn’t provide much “coverage” from prying eyes. In light of this, Amanda pulled off these looks with pure confidence. I’ve since shot with Amanda several more times.
How about the rest of the team? Have you worked together before?
I’ve worked with Yesenia on multiple occasions and she always delivers on the concept. This was the first time working with Kym and she was fantastic. A real trooper who has a ton of experience across the board on photoshoots and videoshoots. The team was really a photographer’s dream. Everyone on board with the same goals and working hard to achieve them!
