Silent Signs by Sisilia Piring

Los Angeles based photographer Sisilia Piring grew up in a fashion home, with both her mother and her husband being in the industry. “- I also have a lot of friends in the fashion industry who have their own line which led me to shoot their lookbooks that led me to doing fashion photography more often than my ‘personal work.’ I love fashion photography because I love the transformation of the model once she puts the clothes on, she’s transformed to a different being.

We’ve followed Sisilia’s work for while, and her name shouldn’t be too unfamiliar to the avid follower; Sisilia capped a feature in our One Frame Fame section not too long ago. Today she’s finally making her real debut on Ben Trovato with her own story, Silent Signs, featuring Lily from Ford Models.

Stylist Zoe Costello, MUA Michal Cohen, hair stylist Sylvia Wheeler and assistant Joshua Rohrer also joined the team, creating a cold and raw story: “- The main source of inspiration came from the styling of the wardrobe,” Sisilia explains. “Each look gave a different inspiration. We wanted to create this semi dark, high fashion/rock look. We used all sorts of abnormal outfits, including socks for elderly with swollen feet as pantyhose.

It seems as if Lily fit the part well? “Lily was amazing to work with. She is super sweet and doesn’t mind giving input on ideas or just simply taking direction. She literally ran down a dirt path in a pencil skirt, heavy jacket, and military boats. She had to do it about 7 times just to be sure we got the picture we wanted. Besides that, it was FREEZING that day. As you can tell from the photos, most of the wardrobe isn’t cold weather friendly. She didn’t complain once.

In an industry where all people seem to do is complain, it was refreshing working with someone that wasn’t jaded and just had a natural joy for the day.

We finally have a Sisilia Piring story on Ben Trovato, what else does 2012 have in store for you? “I’ve been asked by a clothing line to do a few shirts for them, my photographs on their shirts. I’m super excited for that. I started shooting it already. Also, I’ll be shooting a lookbook pretty soon with another great clothing line. I’m really looking forward to traveling more this year. I get the most inspiration from traveling and road trips. As for work in 2012, I’d love to be published more and push myself outside of my comfort zone.
