Pax Romana by Kyle Goldie

Here at Ben Trovato we are huge fans of Kyle Goldie‘s black and white work, and we are extremely excited every time we get to present another one of his extraordinary editorials.

Being his third story for Ben Trovato, Kyle set out inspired by some of the old location work by Greg Kadel and Steven Meisel, but what might have influenced him the most was a recent conversation he had with one of Annie Leibovitz’ former agents: “- He mentioned that he loves the menswear images in my portfolio and would love to see more.

While his menswear work is particularly strong, let’s not forget Kyle’s amazing debut editorial entitled Cliff featuring the striking Malene Søndergaard Jensen.

Pax Romana features Wade Holter who’s just about to head to Milan for work, something that fit Kyle’s plans very well: “- I wanted to use the Italian style of editorial photography into the art direction. The bright, harsh natural light, the architectural focus on the columns, and the dappled light all really came into play to make the Italian story come full circle,” Kyle says, adding: “- It’s really fun shooting men since I am able to play with quite a bit of light/shadows in comparison to when I shoot women. Really brings out the masculinity of the male form, I believe.

And shooting Wade was a breeze: “- Wade Holter is a great guy. Extremely relaxed, comfortable, and incredibly easy to direct. He nailed exactly what I wanted from him.

Stylist on the shoot, Gabe Aguayo, who actually styled Kyle’s previous menswear story on Ben Trovato, says it was great working with Kyle on yet another project. ” The wardrobe I pulled for this shoot was from Built for Man (designer Francisco Hernandez) as well as various boutiques around Seattle. The unique, hand-crafted jewelry was designed by Lane Bueche specifically for this shoot when lending him the art direction over an edgy Spring. While Kyle informed me that the shoot was going to be solely in B&W, my focus was to pull items that held great contrast for the locations he chose to shoot for this editorial.”
